The Britten Stables

The Britten Stables is an award-winning heritage restoration, recognised as Joint Winner of the 2021 Domestic Restored and Saved Heritage Award and featured on Grand Designs. Originally built over 120 years ago and later home to motorcycle designer John Britten, the building sustained significant damage in the Christchurch earthquakes and was initially deemed irreparable.

Bromley Steel was engaged to fabricate and install the structural steel required for the seismic strengthening and restoration of the original structure, along with the framework for a new loft-style garage and studio addition. Delivering within the constraints of a heritage building required precise detailing, careful planning, and close coordination with the wider project team.

The completed project successfully integrates modern structural performance with historic character, demonstrating our capability in complex restoration and architectural steelwork.
